There's that...
We have organized competitions and events going all the time, so it creates some higher stakes for the game. No longer are you just trying to win as much as you can, but you're trying to win, AND not let your team down.
Also there will come a time when you have a badass fighter that wins EFC gold and you will want to celebrate that fact. Being in an alliance means that when that happens and you say "WOOOOO", some people will actually be there to cheer you on and care. As opposed to your Wife, and or Kids etc... etc... who will probably just tell you to "pipe down in there"
That's kinda how I got into it... Started pulling down some EFC titles, and I wanted some high fives.
