Round 1 Aguilar shoots in but is stuffed by Gene Sanders. He stands up and quickly grabs and executes a belly to belly that stuns Gene Sanders. Aguilar elects to move for side control. Marco slides his knee across the body of Sanders and takes full mount. Marco punishes Sanders with a series of strikes from the mount. Gene Sanders gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Marco Aguilar peppers shot to the head of Gene looking for an opening to apply a rear naked choke but Gene is hand playing well. Marco tries to set in a rear naked choke, but can't quite finish it. The round comes to an end.
Round 2 Gene parries Aguilars jab and connect with a cross. Aguilar narrowly dodges a cross from Gene, but falls catching him in his guard. A deep cut is open up over the eye of Marco from strikes in the guard. The ref stops the fight so the doctor can look at it. The doctor says he can continue. Marco Aguilar is caught in a can opener and opens his guard. He lands two quick strikes but Gene Sanders transitions to half guard. Marco holds the head of Gene close to avoid shots. Gene slams shots to his opponents ribs and throws hard elbows to the thighs. Gene Sanders hits Aguilar with some punches to the side of the head. Gene drops an elbow onto the forehead of Aguilar. The round comes to an end.
Round 3 A wild hook from Sanders is ducked by Aguilar who lands a cross-hook to the body before backing away. After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. The fighters jockey for position in the clinch. Sanders works Marco Aguilar into the cage from the clinch. Sanders presses his head under Aguilars chin so he cannot defend the piston shots from either side. Gene Sanders attempts a takedown from the clinch, but Marco Aguilar pulls a switch on him, ultimately leading to both fighters on their feet. Gene takes a heavy kick to the arm attempting to block his head. Gene Sanders throws a cross that easily dodged by Marco Aguilar. Gene Sanders is brought to his back by a well executed takedown from Marco. Marco now has side control. Round 3 is finished.
