Round 1 Both fighters begin to exchange Jamar Bates catches Cody Dempsey with an eye poke. The referee calls time and lets Cody Dempsey gather himself. Cody Dempsey says he is ok and the fight continues. Bates connects with a strong right hook. Both fighters trade glancing shots continuing to find their respective range. Jamar lands a double jab. Jamar takes a punch while shooting but executes the takedown and ends up in "Luck of the Irishs" guard. A can opener from Jamar opens up Codys guard. Jamar lands two quick strikes as he moves into half guard. Jamar Bates is able to slip into mount from the half guard. Jamar Bates throws some outside strikes at Dempsey. The ref stops the fight as the round comes to an end.
Round 2 Jamar throws a flurry connecting with the final punch. Cody is rocked and stumbles to the ground but quickly shakes it off. Jamar feints a takedown attempt and connects with a left hook dropping "Luck of the Irish". Jamar dives into guard. Jamar Bates strikes to the body of Cody Dempsey from in guard, opening Cody Dempsey up for a headshot which bruises his brow. Chop shots lands on Batess face but he lowers his head, pushes his hand through Codys guard and chucks him to his side. Jamar Bates moves to side control. Jamar slides his knee across the body of Dempsey and takes full mount. Jamar Bates maintains mount but laying some well timed strikes. "Luck of the Irish" arches his body up to buck off Jamar from mount. A scramble takes place leading to both fighters back to their feet. The bell signals the end of round 2.
Round 3 Jamar Bates connects with a hard punch making "Luck of the Irish" bring him in to a tight clinch. Dempsey attempts to grab the plum but is kept off balance by Jamars strikes. Jamar Bates dodges an uppercut to the chin, though loses his balance and falls to the ground, with "Luck of the Irish" standing over him. Cody attempts to drop a fist on Jamar, but misses and lands in his guard. Jamar shifts his hips to get better position in the guard. While caught in Batess guard, Cody Dempsey gets hit with a vicious elbow. Cody Dempsey tries to pass guard but Jamar Bates stops him with a well timed punch. Cody defends a triangle attempt, throwing Jamar Batess straight leg over his head and makes a move for side control. Bates is able to hold him to half guard. Round 3 is over.
