Round 1 Jon feints a takedown attempt and connects with a left hook dropping Maurice. Jon dives into guard. A kimura attempt is defended well by Jon Rogers and he is able to sneak his leg through Powells loose guard, to half guard. Jon Rogers is able to slip into mount from the half guard. Jon Rogers lands a double punch to the head of Maurice Powell. Maurice Powell gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Rogers executes a double hand slap to the ears of Maurice Powell. Round 2 Both fighters begin to exchange Jon Rogers catches Powell with an eye poke. The referee calls time and lets Powell gather himself. Powell says he is ok and the fight continues. Powell fakes a shot and lunges forward pressing Jon to the cage. Jon swims for underhooks but is taken down in the process. Jon Rogers shifts his hips to get better position in the guard. Maurice Powell eats a stiff punch to the face, and is then swithced, giving Jon Rogers full mount. Maurice Powell attempts to buck Rogers off from mount but Rogers keeps his base and maintains position. Jon Rogers telegraphs his motions for an armbar, but Maurice Powell gives up his back to stop the attempt. Round 2 comes to a close.
Round 3 The fighters circle each other. A couple of powerful body shots forces Powell back to the cage. Rogers swims to double underhooks. Powell cannot stop Rogers from stepping back and taking him to the floor. A strong chopping strike hits Jon Rogers across the face. Jon Rogers lands a series of return strikes. Maurice Powell gives up guard avoiding a powerful hammer fist. He now has half guard. Rogers opens a cut over the eye of Maurice. The doctor takes a look at it, and says he's okay to continue.
