nO it only gives you little perks but dos not give you an advantage game wise.. It does give you kewl looking outfits to buy and other small features

You asked about equipment No.. but it does help move stats faster and higher.. if everyhting was equal you would move up a stat faster with better equipment then with worse equipment

Also don't spend on outfits until you have your equipment upgraded to be pretty high.. It takes a while but it worth it

Tips?.. Ok learn about styles and pick the best styles that fight the Fighter..Work on improving all the stats to that stle to 3.25 or 3 and 1/4 and them work on other stats to give a more well rounded fighter.. If I fighter has a higer stat in somehting that an other then that is who you should be sparing against in that stat to get it to go higher faster
