Round 1 Makoni hits a hard jab but misses with the follow up straight. Makoni narrowly dodges a cross from Illia Dovzhenko, but falls catching him in his guard. Makoni connects with several chop shots from the bottom. Mashinda sinks a kimura, but cannot finish. He settles for a switch into mount. Makoni secures his position. Dovzhenko bucks off Makoni and both fighters get to their feet. Round 1 is finished.
Round 2 Makoni connects with a leg kick then a hook to the side of the head. Illia Dovzhenko takes a punch and goes to the mat, Mashinda Makoni pounces into side control. Illia Dovzhenko recovers quickly. Dovzhenko is wisely defending a kimura. Mashinda attempts to take it but Dovzhenko is having none of it, though Mashinda has used the chance the slide into mount. Dovzhenko arches his body up to buck off Mashinda Makoni from mount. A scramble takes place leading to both fighters back to their feet. Illia Dovzhenko connects with a combination and backs away from the counter combo of Mashinda Makoni. Illia Dovzhenko is staggered by a jab to the chin. Illia Dovzhenko connects with a hard punch and dives in mounting Makoni. Round 2 is over.
Round 3 Mashinda parries Illias jab and connect with a cross. Makoni connects with a strong right hook. Makoni reaches down and trips Dovzhenko with a beautiful ankle pick. Makoni dives into back control. Illia carefully protects himself from Mashinda Makonis strikes. Dovzhenko is able to make it back to the standing position. Mashinda Makoni lands a double jab. A shot is side stepped by Illia Dovzhenko but quick reflexes and footwork lead to a second attempt that takes down Illia Dovzhenko. Mashinda settles into his guard. The round comes to an end.
Round 4 Mashinda throws a flurry connecting with the final punch. Illia Dovzhenko is rocked and stumbles to the ground but quickly shakes it off. Mashinda connects with a strong body shot combo. Makoni eats a jab,jab, then a hook from Illia. Mashinda Makoni throws a push kick. Dovzhenko shucks it and strikes with a overhand that crashes into Mashindas nose.
Both fighters trade shots and back away looking for the next opening. Makoni winds up a heavy straight but is countered by a hard counter knee to the body. Round 4 comes to a close.
Round 5 A trip to the ground allows Mashinda to move into the guard of Illia Dovzhenko. A can opener from Makoni opens up Dovzhenkos guard. Makoni lands two quick strikes as he moves into half guard. Illia tries to slip his leg out to get full guard, but is having difficulty. Mashinda Makoni presses his foot onto the thigh of Dovzhenko to get his own foot free. He successfully releases his leg and moves to side control. Illia Dovzhenko almost switches side control around, but falls short at the last moment. Mashinda works for a kimura but Illia defends well. Illia turns out and escapes to his feet. Round 5 is over.
