Round 1 Duval connects with a strong right hook. Christian Duval narrowly dodges a cross from Whelan, but falls catching him in his guard. Duval grabs the arm of "The Real Deal" while in guard and holds tight eating shots to ribs. Mark Whelan keeps his head down in guard to gather energy. Duval uses the strength of his legs to sweep him over to his back. Duval now has full mount. Whelan attempts to escape mount but has no luck. "The Real Deal" kicks off a leg and finds space off to the side and wraps around the body of Christian Duval getting his back. The ref stops the fight as the round comes to an end.
Round 2 Mark Whelan shoots but Christian stuffs it, eventually working in a whizzer and landing some sharp knees that allows him to move to side mount. Duval slides his knee across the body of Mark Whelan and takes full mount. Christian Duval maintains mount but laying some well timed strikes. "The Real Deal" gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Christian locks in a body triangle as he takes shots at Whelan. Christian lands a series of heavy punches forcing "The Real Deal" to roll to his back, giving Christian mount. The bell signals the end of round 2.
Round 3 Mark Whelan keeps Duval at a distance with some well timed jabs. Christian Duval attempts a jab but is countered by a hard right leg kick to the knee and is instantly followed by an upward elbow strike that rocks him. Mark connects with a brutal kick to the liver of Christian who falls to the ground. Mark waves him back to his feet. Mark Whelan throws a hard jab but Duval throws a cross right over the top rocking Mark Whelan. Christian parries a jab but is caught by a strong leg kick. Mark Whelan throws a push kick. Christian Duval shucks it and strikes with a overhand that crashes into "The Real Deals" nose.
Round 3 comes to a close.
Round 4 "The Real Deal" unleashes a flurry of punches on Christian. Mark connects with a hard punch making Christian bring him in to a tight clinch. "The Real Deal" connects with a stiff knee to the chin. Duval is dazed on the mat. Mark Whelan grabs a foot and kicks at Duvals thighs. He then backs off and Christian stands back up. "The Real Deal" catches a leg kick and fires a hard punch to the head dropping Christian Duval. Whelan chucks Duvals legs to a side to attempt a soccer kick but misses and he elects to sprawl into side control. "The Real Deal" lands a few stiff elbows from side control. The bell signals the end of round 4.
Round 5 After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Christian Duval works the clinch to his advantage, carefully connecting with precise strikes. Mark attempts a takedown from the clinch, but Christian pulls a switch on him, ultimately leading to both fighters on their feet. Duval narrowly dodges a cross from Mark, but falls catching him in his guard. Christian starts to lock a triangle. "The Real Deal" postures up and "The Real Deal" settles for a few stiff chops to Christians face. Christian begins to work the rubber guard. Christian Duval attempts an armbar from the bottom, but Mark slips out at the last moment. Whelan frees a leg and moves into half guard. Round 5 comes to a close.
