Round 1 Derrick Ward sprawls a takedown attempt from Ramon. Ramon eats several punches on the way back to his feet. Ward stuffs a shot from Ramon and hits him with a hard hook to the temple and pushes him to take his guard. Derrick Ward pulls out of the guard of Guerrero, stands up, feels it out, and drops a huge right hand to the jaw of Guerrero. Ward pushes down Ramon Guerreros leg, allowing him to pass guard into half guard. "Beach Bum" is able to slip into mount from the half guard. Guerrero gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Guerrero starts to wiggle out of back control, "Beach Bum" lets him escape putting them both on their feet. Ramon Guerrero shoots in and grabs a single leg. "Beach Bum" hops on one leg and defends the takedown. While on one leg, he leaps into the air and lands his apposing knee forcing Ramon Guerrero to release the attempt. Guerrero is sent crashing to the mat by a powerful right hook. The round comes to an end.
Round 2 Guerrero circles Derrick Ward, landing jabs and crosses at will. Both fighters trade glancing shots continuing to find their respective range. Derrick Ward gets hit with a strong punch, putting him to the mat, but he recovers just in time to give up his back. Derrick tries to stand up but Guerrero plants him back down with several strikes. Derrick starts to wiggle out of back control, Ramon lets him escape putting them both on their feet. Ramon dives in for a takedown but the momentum of the attempt ends in a scramble back to their feet. Derrick Ward shoots but Ramon Guerrero stuffs it, eventually working in a whizzer and landing some sharp knees that allows him to move to side mount. The round comes to an end.
Round 3 Guerrero hits an uppercut to the head of Derrick Ward followed by a hard hook. Both fighters trade glancing shots continuing to find their respective range. After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Ramon drops to a knee and attempts a takedown from the clinch. Derrick sets a guillotine choke but Ramon slips out at the last moment. Ramon is now caught in guard. "Beach Bum" attempts a switch from the guard, but a scramble takes place getting both fighters to their feet. "Beach Bum" connects with numerous jabs to the face of Guerrero. "Beach Bum" unleashes a flurry of punches on Ramon. Derrick Ward unleashes a flurry of punches on Guerrero. The round comes to an end.
