Round 1 A welt begins to form under Fernandess eye after a strong cross-hook landed from Ahadi. Taj Ahadi tries to hyperextend the knee of Rene with a kick to the kneecap. Rene hops back to avoid it. Fernandes is staggered by a jab to the chin. Taj Ahadi dives in for a leg lock attempt and latches on taking his opponent to the ground but Rene Fernandes is too elusive and immediately gets back to his feet. The bell signals the end of round 1.
Round 2 "Mahal" hits a lead uppercut and follows with a hard hook to the head of Fernandes. Rene Fernandes is staggered by a jab to the chin. "Mahal" dives in for a leg and threatens quickly with a leg lock. Rene Fernandes falls back to his back giving "Mahal" the opening to jump into dominant half guard. Rene is able to work a leg through from the bottom to attain full guard. Rene Fernandes dodges some ground strikes from Taj, and sends a few back of his own. Taj Ahadi pushes down Renes leg, allowing him to pass guard into half guard. "Mahal" presses his foot onto the thigh of Fernandes to get his own foot free. He successfully releases his leg and moves to side control. The bell signals the end of round 2.
Round 3 Fernandes connects with jab cross combination. Ahadi dives in on a leg but Rene defends well forcing Ahadi to get back to his feet into a clinch. Rene Fernandes drops to a knee and attempts a takedown from the clinch. Taj sets a guillotine choke but Rene Fernandes slips out at the last moment. Rene Fernandes is now caught in guard. Rene locks the leg of "Mahal" and falls back for foot lock. "Mahal" desperately tries to peel the hands off and barely gets them free allowing a scramble to the feet. "Mahal" is hit with a jab and then taken down by a beautiful single-leg takedown. Taj Ahadi gives up guard avoiding a powerful hammer fist. He now has half guard. Round 3 is finished.
