Round 1 Patrick Grant catches a leg kick from Alwin Lyon, and puts him on the mat. Alwin Lyon works for a triangle but Patrick throws Alwin Lyons straight leg over his head and makes it to half guard. Patrick attempts to sink a neck crank from half guard. It does not appear to be tight enough as Alwin gives a thumbs up to the referee until he finally struggles out. Grant slips out of half guard and into side control. Patrick Grant lands a few stiff elbows from side control. Patrick delivers knees to the body and sharp forearms to the head forcing Lyon to turn over. Patrick takes the back. The bell signals the end of round 1.
Round 2 Grant connects with a right that puts Alwin off balance tumbling to the mat, as Grant towers over him. Grant stands over Alwin Lyon, works his way through his open guard and lands some solid standing punches. Alwin Lyon is able to grab an arm and pull Grant into his guard. Grant keeps his head down in the chest of Lyon to avoid any submission attempts. Grant leans up and lands some short punches before lowering back down. Patrick Grant distracts Alwin with peppering shots. Patrick Grant then isolates a leg and sinks a achilles lock. Alwin is able to force his way out but gives up mount in the ensuing scramble. Alwin Lyon shifts his head and hips to keep Patrick Grant off balance and unable to land strikes. Alwin gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Patrick Grant begins to look for a rear naked choke, but Alwin rolls to being mounted instead. Alwin attempts to escape mount but has no luck. Round 2 is finished.
Round 3 Alwin Lyon connects with a leg kick then a hook to the side of the head. Patrick narrowly dodges a cross from Alwin Lyon, but falls catching him in his guard. Patrick lands a stiff elbow while on his back. Alwin Lyon attempts to drop bombs while caught in the guard, but Grant takes the chance to switch Alwin Lyon over to mount him. Lyon attempts to escape mount but has no luck. Patrick punishes Alwin with a series of strikes from the mount. The bell signals the end of round 3.
