Round 1 Javier Rios pushes away from Darren and lands a strong chopping kick to the lead leg. After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Rios lands a powerful uppercut in the clinch. Chapman receieves numerous knees to the thighs from Javier Rios. Rios escapes the clinch and creates some distance. Chapman eats a jab,jab, then a hook from Javier. Darren moves in to press the action, but Rios lands a heavy back kick. Both fighters trade shots and back away looking for the next opening. Javier Rios circles Chapman, then lands a push kick that knocks him to the floor. The bell signals the end of round 1.
Round 2 A trip to the ground allows Javier to move into the guard of Darren Chapman. Darren Chapman connects with several chop shots from the bottom. Javier Rios backs out of the guard, and chooses to stand with his opponent, allowing him to his feet. Darren connects with a hard right hand putting Rios on the mat. Darren goes down with him into side control. Javier Rios is able to get back to full guard. The round comes to an end.
Round 3 Javier throws a few jabs at Darren that miss the mark. Javier Rios fakes a takedown attempt and clinches with Chapman. Chapman drops down and thrusts forward with a textbook double leg takedown. Rios attempts a switch from the guard, but a scramble takes place getting both fighters to their feet. Rios buckles Darren with a kick. Rios rushes forward to grab a guillotine, then falls to guard. Darren is in trouble but is able to muscles his way out of the choke. Chapman snatches a leg and wrenches back for an ankle lock. Rios defends well so the lock changes to a heel hook. Chapman rotates into a very tight knee bar but Rios wiggles out to his feet. Round 3 is finished.
Round 4 Chapman presses forward and is able to jump up and grab onto Javier, aggressively pulling guard. Chapman gives up guard avoiding a powerful hammer fist. He now has half guard. Javier Rios tries to pull his leg out of half guard, but no luck. Darren Chapman pulls the foot in of Javier Rios using leverage to sweep him into side control. Round 4 is over.
Round 5 Darren lands a double jab. Darren Chapman throws a hard jab but Javier throws a cross right over the top rocking Darren Chapman. Darren Chapman dives in for a leg and threatens quickly with a leg lock. Rios falls back to his back giving Darren Chapman the opening to jump into dominant half guard. Javier is able to work a leg through from the bottom to attain full guard. Darren Chapman keeps his head down in the chest of Rios to avoid any submission attempts. Darren Chapman leans up and lands some short punches before lowering back down. Chapman pushes down Rioss leg, allowing him to pass guard into half guard. Darren is able to slip into mount from the half guard. Round 5 is finished.
